Belagavi: To keep a strict tab on the working of TV cable operators, the government has decided to initiate stringent measures in the state. Raising the issue of how cable operators are fleecing people in the state, at a discussion in the Upper House, Home Minister Dr G Parameshwar warned cable operators not to charge more than Rs 130 a month for 100 TV channels.
Responding to a calling attention by JDS MLC, Puttanna at the Legislative Council, he said, Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) fixed cable prices recently according to which the operators could charge only Rs 20 extra if an additional 25 channels are added to the existing ones. He assured to keep a watch on operators collection through state and district-level committees. Mr Parameshwar said, the government would bring a new policy to collect taxes from cable business houses as they did a whopping Rs 5000 crore business annually in the state.
