Belagavi: Hopes to rescue six-year-old girl Kaveri who accidentally fell into an open borewell at Jhunjarwad, near Athani continue to fade even as the teams involved in massive rescue operations are leaving no stone unturned since the time she fell on Saturday to get her out alive. According to sources, the girl is unlikely to be alive as some members of the rescue team feel that she might have died by now.

Hundreds of experts from rescue teams including those from NDRF Pune and Hutti Gold Mines dug up parallel holes and later opened a tunnel to reach the spot where Kaveri is belived to have stuck, but so far no clear indication of whether she is still alive or dead is obtained. A marathon rescue operation that lasted for several hours faced several hurdles as a large boulder in the parallel hole hampered the process from gaining pace. However, the rescuers did not stop but continued their operation against all the odds with a sole target of taking Kaveri out alive.

Kaveri is believed to have stuck 20 to 25 feet in the borwell when she accidentally fell into it while playing with her friends on Saturday. According to reports, a heap of mud may have fallen on her suffocating her when she was caught in the middle of a 40-feet borewell.

Until a firm and specific information is obtained from the rescue teams, no official sources are ready to announce about whether the girl is dead by now.
