Belagavi: The first work-tender under Smart City Project in the state has been floated at last. Under pressure from all sides for delay in implementing the project, Belagavi becomes the first city to float the tender ahead of all others by calling this international tender for a work worth ₹ 76 crore.

After one-year teething problems, authorities of working on this mega project, headed by CEO of the project, Shashidhar Kurer succeeded in intiving the first Smart City Project’s tender in the state. For this ₹ 76-crore work, the government has set a deadline of two months inviting responses from some of the best companies of international standard. None of cities which got this project in the state have so far called tenders. The CEO had recently stated that he would add pace to the project as soon as he assumed charge after the exit of Mulai Muhilan, the former CEO who was shunted out of Belagavi even before he completed his one-year service in Belagavi.

Another tender for setting up of command centre under the project will be invited shortly which is worth ₹ 6 crore. The centre would come up on the first floor of City Water Supply Board building the city. At least 16 LED screens would be in place at the comman centre which will keep a tab on the entire system of traffic, waste management, etc. Shortly, the authorities will also be inviting a tender for construction of a heritage park at Vaccine Depot.
