Belagavi: Opposing the shifting of a slaughter house from Hirebagewadi to Belagavi city and demanding the removal of illegal slaughterhouses in the city, BJP members headed by Rajkumar Topannavar staged a protest in Belagavi today. The protesters opposed the transfer of a slaughterhouse which was supposed to be established in a 20-acre land on Hirebagewadi outskirts. After locals opposed it in Hirebagewadi, the government had ordered for having the same established at Ramteerth Nagar in the city. They contended that Hindus are in majority at Ramteerth Nagar where Siddeshwar temple also is located. The protesters threatened the government against having it there warning of dire consequences.

In a memorandum to DC, the agitators said, several slaughterhouses are located in Auto Nagar and Ramteerth Nagar in violation of government orders that specifically stated that the slaughterhouses must be stationed at least 5 Kms away from city limits. They blamed MLA of North Belagavi for all that stating that the officials of city corporation supported him. Even many cows also are being slaughters in these slaughterhouses, they said. Urging for removal of all illegal slaughter houses, the agitators said the government should act against such houses or else they would get them removed.
