Belagavi/Mumbai:Akshay Kumar has impressed the audience with his back to back meaningful movies. The Khiladi Kumar of the tinsel town is choosing amazing films and that is resulting in an increase in his fan following to no ends. Padman starring Akshay Kumar, Radhika Apte, and Sonam Kapoor was much in the limelight thanks to its subject of menstruation.
The film gained all the attention since its inception. The movie is inspired by a real-life social activist Arunachalam Muruganantham who tackled the issue of menstrual hygiene in rural areas. The film has received mixed reviews in terms of its presentation but has received thumbs up for its story and concept.
Padman was delayed to make way for the release of Padmaavat and the Akshay Kumar starrer finally hit the screens last Friday. The film slightly got overshadowed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s magnum opus but managed to create a mark with its thought-provoking plot. Padman enjoyed the advantage of the Mahashivratri holiday which scaled up its numbers at the box office. Moreover, with Valentine’s Day falling after that, the collections are bound to increase.
The lack of competition from any other film considering Padmaavat has already passed its peak weeks, Padman is expected to gain an above average collection. The film has completed its first weekend at the box office with good collections. Padman earned Rs.39.50cr net approx. on the weekend i.e. the total collection of Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. The collections have majorly been from the metro cities. The movie might not do that well in the other regions because of its subject.
Coming to its first week, Padman earned Rs.5.75cr net approx. on Monday. The collections were stable for a Monday because it was a working day. The earnings for the film improved on Tuesday because of the Mahashivratri holiday. The movie grossed Rs. 6cr net approx. on Tuesday. In total, the first five days collection of the film comes to around Rs. 51.25cr net approx.
It can be rightly said that the movie has successfully crossed the mark of 50 crore and will gain more due to the Valentine’s Day. Moreover, the subject of the film might not be very welcoming to the other states and hence the overall earnings will now depend on the metro cities. The film is expected to be an above average hit.
